Five Full Days in Italy

Palace of Justice
Leaving the Albanian 100 Year Anniversary celebrations, we flew to Rome. A colleague of Peter's in the Albania office, lives in Rome with his family. He accompanied us and we packed in 18 hours of sight seeing. Angelo is a fount of knowledge about art history, history and literature. He also spouts Greek and knows the height of everything in the city. What an architectural stock of buildings they have!

St. Peter's Cathedral
Now this is pizza Italian style!
After 6 pieces of pizza including chocolate pizza!
This is a 6 story manager scene, Italian style. Too big for my collection!

This was one of 6 murals on the ceiling of the lobby of our hotel in Rome!

A wonderful birthday dinner with Angelo and his sweet family

Day 2 we rented a car and drove south to Pompeii and Amalfi Coast
August 24th, AD 79 the volcano from Mt. Vesuvius erupted and within 17 hours, 25 meters of volcanic ash reigned down on this city, killing 2,000 people. The silver lining was that this ash preserved the mosaics, walls, fountains, pillars and even bodies for 1500 years.

We drove the dramatic and gorgeous Amalfi Coast, finding a sweet hotel with a view of the Mediterranean. Check out the tower at the point. It is called the Clavel Tower!
Town of Positano
Lots of funky art neighborhoods
